Standard Features:
Until now, reliable on-the-spot
testing of flat batteries has been virtually impossible. A
Multimeter, a little guesswork and plenty of experience of the
behavieour of batteries and car owners have been the primary tools
used to offer a diagnosis. Now battery testing has been changed
forever with the introduction of AutoTest. AutoTest uses a unique
pulse impedence measurement technique to provide fast and accurate
on-the-spot battery and electrical system testing. AutoTest is
always ready for use. Perfect for Auto Clubs, fleet owners,
mechanics, auto electricians and mobile service providers.
AutoTest completely eliminates guesswork from battery test. No
operator interruption is required and results are consistent and
objective.
Easy to use Microprocessor controlled,
AutoTest provides prompts to step the operator through each stage
of a battery and complete electrical system test. AutoTest uses a
test protocol developed in conjunction with auto club service
engineers.
Ideal for Autoclubs and workshops alike:
Roadside testing has never been easier than with AutoTest. Battery
analysis now takes only minutes even with "dead flat" batteries.
In managed Mode, AutoTest checks battery, alternator/regulator
output and "key off" current drain. With the accurate information
that AutoTest provides, call backs are greatly reduced, resulting
in increased customer satisfaction and greater efficiency.
Dual mode operation: AutoTest can be used
in two different testing modes. In Managed Mode it operates as an
automated electrical system analyser. reporting on battery
condition. alternator/regulator output, "key off" loads and
battery terminal condition. In Measurment Mode AutoTest is an
automotive DC multimeter which measures DC volts and amps, ohms,
true RMS AC voltage, calibrated average and peak to peak volts,
possive duty cycle, "on time" and frequency for CU and electrical
diagnostics. Starter motor and other current draws can be measured
with the compact current probe.
Results: Analysis summaries can be printed to an
external device via RS232 serial port. Test data may also be
transferred to a host computer either directly or via modem for
use in statistical analysis i.e. total customer callouts v call
backs.
AutoTest in
detail :AutoTest has three modes of operation.
(1)Managed Mode, (2)Measurment Mode, (3)Menu Mode.
Managed Mode: Managed Mode is a
Microprocessor managed diagnostic sequencethat evaluates battery condition,
alternator/regulator output, integnity of battery of battery
clamps to battery post connections, and the level of "key off
drain". The operator is guided through the diagnostic path via
prompts on the illuminated liquid crystal display(LCD). The
analyser automatically interprets the test data and reports the
results to the operator via the LCD. In the case of the case of
obvious battery faults such as shorted cells, high internal
resistance(sulphation etc.) or poor battery connections, the
result is immediately reported to the operator. Where it is
appropriate for the diagnostic sequence to continue, AutoTest will
prompts for the vehicle to be key or jump started and performs an
evaluation of alternator/regulator output and battery condition.
The technology utilised by AutoTest was developed to accommodate
varyingstates of battery charge, and in particular the very low
states of charge typically encountered by roadside service
providers, The battery analysis sequence operates from 30 seconds
to 4 minutes depending on battery's state of charge. At the
conclusion of diagnostic sequence AutoTest displays the results
for battery. Alternator/regulator and "key off" drain. The data in
support of results is also available if required and can be
printed out. A coded summary for each analysis isretained in
memory for subsequent data transfer and analysis if
required. How to make Manage

Mesurement
Mode: Measurement Mode provides for auto-ranging DC multimeter
functions (volts, amps, ohms). AC measurements reported separately
asRMS volts, peak to peak volts, possive duty cycle in % for the
square wave, mS "on time" and frequency of the AC waveform for ECU
diagnostics, starter check and battery analysis. Battery condition
is reported to the operator as PASS/Marginal/Fail with the test
data expressed as the final loaded voltage equivalent to a
standard BCI(Battery Council International)load
test.
Menu
Mode: AutoTest has a menu mode to enable data printing and
downloads, data storage and selection of battery rating
standard(SAE,DIN,IEC,EN,JIS).

- Pulse Impedence Technology is developped by CSIRO in
Australia. And Patent licensed to Test Technology. AutoTest
has a current probe that allows it to measure the current that
is being accepted by the test battery while it is being charged.
There is nothing special in that - what is special is the CSIRO
testing technology enables AutoTest to monitor the battery's
condition and charge acceptance simultaneously. That means
AutoTest can monitor a battery's rate of improvement during
charge , In fact it is calculated 40 times per second. By
looking at this rate of improvement AutoTest can determine
a battery's states of health in very short time even when
it is completely discharged.
- Telling what the condition of battery is when it is
fully charged is really quite easy when you know how telling
what its condition is when it is completely discharged is a
different matter. Because AutoTest has its own internal battery
it doesn't need a certain number of volts in the test battery to
perform a test. It is the tester's ability to use the vehicles
own alternator as a charge source and then monitor the rate of
improvement in battery condition that means there is never
"charge and retest" result in the Managed Test. This is what
makes AutoTest so useful for the Auto Clubs who are usually only
called to a scene when a battery is too discharged for a more
conventional test. SO AutoTest are using RAC(Royal Automobile Club) in
Australia, AAA(American Automobile
Association) in US, CAA(Canadian Automobile
Association) in Canada.
